This summit followed recent support from executives of major technology companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI regarding the need to slow down the pace of AI development. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, also addressed his concerns about artificial intelligence in an article, calling for a social agreement to limit certain jobs to human activities.
While some lawmakers emphasize the need for regulation, former U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed these concerns as a "lie" and a "sick conspiracy theory." He warned in his speeches that public anger towards artificial intelligence could harm the United States in its competition with China.
Neil Chilson, head of AI policy at the Advancing Institute, expressed skepticism about the motivations of those calling for regulation, arguing that some efforts to create regulations might merely be aimed at dominating the AI market.
Mark McCarthy, an antitrust policy expert, stressed that regulations should be established for testing the safety of AI models. He believes that companies should be held accountable for the harms caused by AI models during testing or after deployment.
