Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, has recently approved a new 80-kilometer highway project that connects Dubai to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. This initiative is part of efforts to reduce traffic and improve transportation infrastructure in the Emirates. The cost of the first phase of this project is estimated at 3.5 billion dirhams and is expected to reduce travel time by up to 60 percent.
Details of the Highway Project
This new highway will start from Al Shanafof Road and extend to Dubai-Al Ain Road. This route will serve as an alternative to the heavily trafficked E11, E311, and E611 highways. With a capacity of 12 lanes, this corridor can accommodate up to 24,000 vehicles in each direction and will serve over 3.1 million people.

Infrastructure Features
The construction of this highway includes 72 bridges, 17 tunnels, and 45 stormwater drainage channels, forming a major transportation link across the Emirates. The second phase of this project will also extend from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Hamdan stated, "This project represents our ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure as a driver for economic growth and improving quality of life, and it is a fundamental pillar for Dubai's readiness for the future."
This new road network will also connect with Al Maktoum International Airport and the Etihad Rail, facilitating the integration of road, air, and rail travel. With the launch of this highway, traffic conditions in the area are expected to improve and lead to further economic development.
