The Manata On Call program in Maldives provides a unique opportunity for guests of the Four Seasons Hotel Landaa Giraavaru to observe the Manata Reef. This program, which runs from May to November, the Manata season, allows guests to be quickly transported to the location if they spot mantas.

Mechanism of the Manata On Call Program

In this program, guests receive a mobile phone upon check-in, and if they receive a call, they must report to the hotel’s marine center within 30 minutes. This program offers a unique and unpredictable experience due to the diversity and abundance of mantas in the area, as well as the weather conditions. Guests gently enter the water and can swim alongside these large creatures and enjoy their beauty.

Environmental Protection and Collaboration with Manta Trust

The Four Seasons Hotel collaborates with the non-profit organization Manta Trust for marine environmental protection. This collaboration began in 2006, and over 20 years, the hotel has funded research that goes beyond guest experiences. This research includes identifying and tracking mantas using their unique photographs over the years. As a result, Hanifaru Bay, part of Baa Atoll, is recognized as one of the most important manta aggregation sites in the world.

Given the suitable tidal conditions, this area can host hundreds of mantas at certain times. Reports indicate that in 2025, 4,265 reef mantas and a large number of other marine species were observed in this area.
