Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, met with Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. This meeting, attended by a delegation of senior officials from both countries, focused on bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
Development of Bilateral Relations
During this meeting, Putin expressed his pleasure at the meeting and referred to the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, stating: “The United Arab Emirates has become one of our closest partners in the region. Our cooperation extends beyond the economic sphere, and political and security relations are also expanding.”
Putin emphasized that despite the current challenges in the region, communications between the two countries remain close and stable. He asked Khalid to convey his warm regards to Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.
Challenges and Opportunities in the UAE Economy
The United Arab Emirates is currently facing economic challenges arising from regional tensions and fluctuations in the oil market. However, the country has successfully created a diverse and sustainable economy by leveraging natural resources and innovative policies. Various industries such as oil and gas, tourism, financial services, and information technology are recognized as the main pillars of the UAE economy.
Major companies like the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) play a key role in the global energy market. Additionally, the UAE, as an important tourism hub hosting millions of visitors annually, has experienced significant growth in this sector.
As a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the UAE benefits from regional trade agreements and has recently signed important agreements with other countries. In 2025, the volume of bilateral trade between Russia and the UAE reached $14 billion, indicating a 1.5-fold increase compared to previous years.
The main export products from Russia to the UAE include gold, diamonds, and refined oil. Dubai, in particular, is recognized as an international jewelry trade center, creating significant opportunities for further cooperation in economic and commercial fields.
