The Ukrainian railway operator announced that Boris Johnson and David Petraeus, the former CIA director, were traveling on two separate trains at the time of the attack. Petraeus mentioned in a phone conversation that he heard the sound of Russian drones before the explosion occurred, prompting passengers to evacuate quickly. Johnson also reacted to the attack in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying: "I don’t know what logic led Putin to blow up a Ukrainian locomotive at the Polish border. This kind of aimless and random attacks is what Ukrainians face every day."

Security and Diplomatic Consequences
The recent attacks near the Polish border have raised new security concerns for Poland and its neighbors. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk held an emergency meeting following the attacks and warned that he expects Russia to escalate the war in the coming weeks. He stated: "We cannot assume that this escalation will not spill over into our territory... I hope it won’t."
