Saudi Arabia and Egypt are increasing their cooperation to enhance security in the Red Sea. This collaboration has emerged following the visit of Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, to Cairo and his meeting with Egyptian officials.

Security Cooperation Areas

Mohammed bin Salman emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in military and security fields during his meeting with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of Egypt. The two countries have decided to leverage their capacities in various fields, especially in ensuring security in the Red Sea. This action aims to prevent potential threats to maritime and commercial security in this region, which is recognized as one of the strategic global transportation routes.

Regional Security Challenges

The Red Sea has always attracted the attention of countries due to its geographical location and commercial significance. Given the rising tensions in other parts of the Middle East, security cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Egypt could help reduce threats and increase stability in these waters. Officials from both countries have also examined the security situation in Yemen and its impacts on the security of the Red Sea, suggesting that joint actions in this area are necessary.

Moreover, this cooperation could lead to the creation of new commercial and economic frameworks between the two countries. Increased security in the Red Sea could help attract international investors and traders, which would benefit the economies of both countries.
