The journalists were on this trip to capture photos and videos of the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatoa, which caused ash fall over cities and the closure of several airports. The group also included two crew members and a guide who set out to sea from an area west of the capital Jakarta on September 7. They contacted authorities as soon as they arrived in the Sunda Strait and then lost communication.
Search Efforts and Challenges
The head of the local search and rescue agency, Al Amard, told reporters that the results of the search efforts so far have been "zero" and that the operation will continue for another three days. In one area of Enggano Island, a male body has been found over 350 kilometers away from the volcano. Authorities are awaiting test results to identify this body.
The journalists were working for local and international media, including the state news agency Antara, the local website iNews, and Turkey's Anadolu Agency.
