Security Barriers and Challenges

History and Cultural Significance of the Mosque
The Ibrahimi Mosque, recognized as the burial site of Abraham and his family, is one of the prominent symbols of Israeli occupation. This site was built as an Islamic mosque in the 14th century and is now considered one of the Palestinian world heritage sites. While hundreds of Jewish settlers live in the area, their presence alongside Palestinians leads to ongoing tensions and, in some cases, violent clashes.
Muslims can fully access this site only 10 days a year, while Jews also have exclusive access for another 10 days. Arafat Abu Turki, one of the mosque's supervisors, points out that during this time, the mosque's carpets are removed before the entry of Jews. This division clearly reflects the deep challenges between the two religious groups in the region.
Despite these challenges, the population of Palestinian women is particularly present at this site, gathering for various religious and cultural occasions. They come together on special days, such as completing the memorization of the Quran, to celebrate these religious traditions. While adult Palestinian men face greater difficulties accessing the mosque due to security barriers, women come to this place with strong determination.
It is noteworthy that Israeli security cameras continuously monitor the situation at this site and prevent any suspicious movements. Youssef Al-Jaabari also mentions the illegality of the new agreements by Israel in this regard and emphasizes that this mosque is recognized as an international Islamic heritage. He states: "They are trying to change the Islamic nature of this place by adding new structures."
