Jane Fraser, CEO of Citi, met this week with senior leadership from the United Arab Emirates, including Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. The two leaders emphasized Citi's commitment to the country and the bank's deep support for clients across the UAE and the Gulf region during this meeting.

Economic Opportunities and Macro Outlook

The discussions revolved around the global macroeconomic outlook for the region, significant business opportunities emerging in the UAE's diverse economy, and the development of artificial intelligence technology. These topics were examined in line with the country's long-term growth agenda. They also explored the available opportunities for UAE public and private entities to expand access to new global markets with Citi's support.

Fraser stated during the meeting, "It is always an honor and a privilege for me to meet with the leadership of the UAE and to learn firsthand about their vision for the future of the UAE. Few countries have ambitions as extraordinary and a successful track record in achieving them as the UAE. Its visionary leaders have built one of the most dynamic and resilient economies in the world, with a mindset focused on building what is needed for the future."

Citi's Commitment to the UAE Market

She added, "At the heart of this ambition lies investment in technology and sustainable infrastructure that prepares the UAE to lead the next phase of global growth. Our confidence in this direction has never been stronger than during our 60 years of presence in this country, and Citi is deeply committed to leveraging all of its global network capabilities for the continued success of the UAE."

In addition to high-level engagements with the government, Fraser's visit focused on strengthening Citi's collaborations across the region. She discussed border growth strategies and customer access to the bank's global network in the UAE. She also spent significant time with nearly 2,000 Citi colleagues in the region, highlighting the vital role this team plays in advancing the bank's strategy in the Middle East and Africa.

Citi has been operating in the UAE since 1964, opening its first branch in Dubai as the first American bank in the country, and later expanding to Abu Dhabi. In the first eight months of 2026, Citi raised over $75 billion to support clients across the Middle East. The firm was recognized in 2025 as the best investment bank for mergers and acquisitions in the UAE and the Middle East.
