Dubai is enhancing coordination between its road network and airports, with officials examining traffic solutions around Dubai International Airport (DXB) and future transport plans for Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).
Development of Transport Infrastructure
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Airports held a joint meeting to discuss ways to improve traffic flow in the road corridors related to DXB and how to support the expected growth at DWC and Dubai South. In this meeting, Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of RTA, and Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, were present as part of the strategic collaboration between the two entities.
The meeting emphasized facilitating passenger movement between airports and the broader transport network while ensuring that infrastructure plans align with Dubai's population growth, visitor numbers, and urban expansion.
Importance of Al Maktoum International Airport
Mattar Al Tayer highlighted the importance of integrating transport and aviation systems as a central part of Dubai's plans to maintain its position as a global hub for trade, tourism, and aviation. He stated, "Dubai continues to invest in the development of world-class infrastructure that aligns with its future aspirations and supports sustainable growth."
He also pointed out the significance of DWC and Dubai South for RTA's future transport planning, especially considering the rapid development in the area. RTA is collaborating with its strategic partners on an integrated network of roads and public transport modes to respond to the changing travel demand across the emirate.
During this meeting, officials reviewed future road and public transport projects aimed at improving access to DWC and Dubai South from various parts of Dubai. The two sides also discussed how to align transport infrastructure development with future aviation sector plans, especially as airport activities and surrounding communities expand.
For travelers, the focus is not only on reaching the airport but also on creating a fully connected journey. Paul Griffiths stated that collaboration between Dubai Airports and RTA is crucial as the emirate enters a new phase of growth. He added, "Close collaboration with RTA is essential to shape a seamless travel experience for our guests, from the moment they head to the airport and at every stage of their journey."
He also emphasized that integrating airports with roads and public transport will be a significant part of Dubai Airports' future plans. This meeting also addressed the continued coordination between the teams of both organizations on future projects, and it is expected that integrated planning will enhance connections between airports, roads, and public transport.
The overall goal is to improve traffic flow while addressing the needs arising from population and urban growth, supporting travelers, airport staff, and customers. Griffiths stated that the two organizations will continue to collaborate on transport planning as Dubai's airport network evolves. He said, "We will continue to work with RTA to develop a flexible and future-ready transport ecosystem that enhances accessibility, efficiency, and service standards for travelers while supporting the central role of DXB and DWC in strengthening Dubai's position as a leading global gateway for travel and aviation."
