Tokyo Game Show 2026, the largest gaming exhibition in the history of this event, kicked off on Thursday at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. This exhibition is being held for the first time over five days, including two business days and three public days. The organizers of the event announced that 759 publishers from 51 countries and regions are present, with nearly 4000 booths set up.

At this exhibition, some of the largest publishers in the gaming industry, including Sony Interactive Entertainment, Capcom, Square Enix, Sega, and Bandai Namco, have showcased their new and promising titles. The game Grand Theft Auto 6 from Rockstar Games is also highlighted as one of the major titles of the exhibition. Although this game is not playable at TGS, PlayStation has set up a special theater for it, showcasing a lengthy presentation before its release. This indicates the significance of this game as one of the defining titles of 2026.
New Developers and Diversity in the Market
Alongside major publishers, Sega and Atlus are also present at the exhibition with a lineup of new titles. The game Persona 4 Revival is available to play before its release, and Sega has also showcased Stranger Than Heaven. Remedy Entertainment is also present at this event with the game Control Resonant, a sequel to the 2019 game Control.
On the 25th anniversary of Xbox, Microsoft has participated in the exhibition with games like Minecraft Dungeons II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. This new strategy indicates that Xbox is looking to expand beyond its hardware, with more of its games available on other consoles and PCs.
Although Nintendo does not have a booth at TGS, its presence is felt through games being developed by other publishers for Switch 2. The Switch 2 console has sold over 23 million units worldwide so far, and Nintendo has managed to garner stronger support from third-party publishers.
In terms of hardware pricing, Sony is facing challenges. The company is dealing with rising hardware costs and questions regarding the strength of its game production line. However, PlayStation remains one of the strongest brands in the gaming industry.
Tokyo Game Show has also become a cultural symbol of gaming in Japan. Booths with flashy displays and playable demos are striving to attract visitors' attention. Fans are wandering around with branded bags, stickers, and souvenir posters, some of which have become popular collectibles.
The UAE's presence at this exhibition reflects global changes in the gaming industry. The Emirati publisher and developer Red Dunes Games has come to Tokyo with nine titles, including Zozo and the Lost Dreams and Nightmare Circus. Additionally, Pakistan has also participated in the exhibition through Pavilion Tech Destination Pakistan with a group of game development companies, highlighting the importance of TGS as a meeting point for the gaming industries in emerging countries.
The 2026 edition of Tokyo Game Show clearly points to a future where more games move across hardware, and new publishers emerge from developing markets.
